Have your say on plans to salvage slag tipped at Parkgate

ROADMAKERS Steelphalt hope to explore if slag tipped in Parkgate could be salvaged for use in the firm’s factory.

The company has asked if it can dig trial pits and sink two bore holes at the site, known as the banana tip, near Infirmary Road.

Rotherham Borough Council has announced that a public consultation will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) for residents to view and discuss the proposals.

The drop-in session will happen between 4pm and 5.30pm at Rawmarsh Joint Service Centre.

Damien Wilson, the council’s regeneration and environment director, said: “The council recognises the value of green spaces such as this, and remains committed to ensuring residents can continue to access and enjoy them.

“We are keen to understand local people's views on this so these can be taken into consideration in deciding how to proceed.”

The site, which is popular with dog-walkers, would be restored after a few days of exploratory work by Steelphalt if the council agrees to the request.

And a full planning application would be required if the Templeborough-based firm decides to pursue removing the slag for use in road-stone.
