Haulage firm gives Thurnscoe community centre a makeover

A COMMUNITY centre has been given a makeover in time for summer thanks to staff from a nearby haulage firm.

The Rainbow Community Centre in Thurnscoe was given a lick of paint and a good clean by workers from XPO Logistics, which runs deliveries for online retailer Asos from its Grimethorpe HQ.

Martin Sugden, employer supported volunteering manager at Voluntary Action Barnsley (VAB) organised the welcome transformation after receiving a call for help from Susan Hill, centre co-ordinator at the Rainbow Centre.

He said: “The logistics team were delighted to take up the challenge and sent seven members of staff with their best paint brushes and rollers along with VAB to refurbish the interior of the centre.

“The community centre is used for lots of activities in Thurnscoe for people in the local area many who are elderly or retired to meet up and join in, create some artwork, crafts and many more things;

“It’s great to be able to get a team together and really get stuck into this task and add some real social impact action to the centre.

“With a fresh coat of paint and a clean-up, it’s more welcoming and the XPO Logistics team have done a fantastic job.”

Ms Hill said: “I cannot believe what the team have managed to do in one day.

“It’s amazing that XPO Logistics have sent staff to help out who have really got stuck in to give it a summer makeover and cannot thank the team enough for their hard work.”
