Gritters out tonight as cold spell continues

GRITTERS will be out in force across the Rotherham borough tonight (Monday) as temperatures are expected to plummet.

Rotherham Borough Council said roads across the area would be gritted from 7pm and would continue to be gritted through the night until road surface temperatures reach above freezing point.

The Met Office said temperatures are expected to drop to -2C in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Its chief forecaster said it is expected to be a cold and frosty start on Tuesday, albeit sunny, before turning cloudy later in the day.

He said early indications show the possibility of snowfall on Wednesday evening and overnight into Thursday.
