Grant aid for Rotherham Advocacy Partnership

A CHARITY which supports people with learning disabilities has been given a grant of £20,300 for its advocacy work.

The Lloyds TSB Foundation has awarded Rotherham Advocacy Partnerships the grant for its  work helping people with learning disabilities.

Rotherham Advocacy Partnerships, which was established in 1994, provides advocacy services for people with learning disabilities, enabling them to have a direct say in issues which affect them.

The charity provides one-to-one advocacy and advice on issues including housing, employment, education and accessing statutory services and also runs group advocacy sessions at day centres and residential homes throughout the borough, as well as a weekly drop-in centre in Parkgate.

Rotherham Advocacy Partnerships received a one-year grant, which will contribute towards the salary of the advocacy worker who specialises in family support, working with parents who have learning disabilities and may be at risk of having their children taken into care.

The grant will also contribute towards travel and general office costs.

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales funds small to medium-sized local, regional and national charities working at the heart of communities to tackle disadvantage.

Sabi Akram, Rotherham Advocacy Partnerships manager, said: “The grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales will help us fund a dedicated worker to support families who most need it."
