Freight trailer blaze near Aston among weekend fires

FIRE crews from four stations battled a blaze at a business near Aston on Sunday evening.

They were called to commercial premises on Retford Road at Woodhouse Mill at about 8.30pm.

The fire — believed to have been accidental — began in two freight trailers, which activated the sprinklers.

Crews from Aston, Parkway, Birley Moor and Central stations attended. Firefighters returned on Monday to carry out inspections, leaving the scene at 6.30am.

Meanwhile, firefighters dealt with a deliberate fire in woodland off Lilly Hall Road in Maltby at 5.15pm on Saturday.

They were also called to two deliberate fires on Sunday night — a rubbish blaze at Stubbins Hill in Edlington and a car fire at Wentworth Road in Rawmarsh.
