Four months of roadworks, motorists warned

Engineering specialists Balfour Beatty Utility Services will begin work tomorrow on replacing the ageing pipe in Maltby, which has become prone to bursting and incidents of discolouration, on behalf of Yorkshire Water.

The work will take place along the A631, Rotherham Road, Maltby, between Warwick Road and Blyth Road.

The work, which will see the old pipe replaced with a new robust plastic version is expected to take four months, with the team pledging to do everything they can to minimise disruption to local road users and residents.

Yorkshire Water said that it had worked with Rotherham Borough Council to devise a plan which enables them to keep the road open while still completing the work as quickly as possible.

Rolling temporary traffic lights will be in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm throughout the project. 

Mike Tunnicliffe, project manager for Yorkshire Water, said: “This vital work is all about reducing the number of bursts on our network and further improving the quality of water delivered to Maltby residents and businesses.

“Work on this scale is always likely to cause some disruption to road users, but we want to reassure all concerned that we’ll be doing everything we possibly can to complete the job as quickly as possible, with the minimum amount of disruption.”

The company has already liaised with residents living nearby and will continue to update them throughout the work.

The project is part of a £20 million investment Yorkshire Water is making in South Yorkshire to improve drinking water pipes, with over 100km of ageing pipes already replaced since 2005 across Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham.

The company has reiterated its warning for customers in these areas to be on their guard against bogus callers and ensure they ask for identification before letting anyone onto your property.
