Four hurt in Todwick crossroads smash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a head-on collision which left four people injured.

A 47-year-old woman suffered a suspected broken arm and a man thought to have broken his shoulder in the collision near to Todwick crossroads on the A57 at around 9.25pm on Friday.

A blue Citroen Berlingo, driven by the 47-year-old woman, was travelling towards the M1 when it was involved in the collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra, driven by a 68-year-old man, travelling in the opposite direction.

The two cars collided around 300 yards east of Hardwick Lane.

The woman was taken to Rotherham District Hospital and the driver of the Astra was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, along with his two passengers.

Police believed he had broken his shoulder while his passengers, 66-year-old and 34-year-old women, both sustained whiplash injuries.

A police spokesman said: “The reasons for the collision are unclear, but it is believed there may have been a third vehicle involved, a white van.

“Anyone who saw what happened, or saw a white van in the area at the time of the crash is asked to call South Yorkshire Police’s witness helpline on 0114 220 2970.”
