George Robertson (87), of Clifton Meadows Care Home, says he has no plans to put down his pencils and will be exhibiting his work at the home’s open day on April 21.

The former footballer, who played football for Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers in the 1950s, has delighted staff with his artwork, which includes dramatic pictures of rolling seas.

George, who has lived at the care home for three months, said: “I love drawing and have been drawing since I was young.

“I draw everything and if I can draw it I will do.”

The pensioner said he suffered from a bad knee, which restricts his mobility, and drawing keeps him focused. Inspiration comes from books and newspapers, he said.

Louise Cook, deputy care manager at Clifton Meadows, said: “George is quite a new resident and likes to keep himself to himself.

“He’s quite shy about his past but he will tell you about playing football for Doncaster and Sheffield Wednesday.

“He draws from pictures and books he finds and just sits and draws all day long.

“He draws really rough seas where it looks like it’s coming to life.

“They are absolutely brilliant and we would love to get a book printed of his work.”
