Firemen battle huge tyre blaze

FIRE crews are tackling a huge tyre blaze on at a former recycling plant in White Lea Grove, Mexborough.

HUNDREDS of residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to a giant blaze at a recycling depot.

Firefighters have issued the warning to people living in the vicinity of White Lea Grove, Mexborough, as a mountain of tyres went up in flames in the early hours of this morning.

The A6023 Wath Road in Mexborough was closed in both directions between Main Street and Oak Road as crews tackled the blaze using foam extinguishers.

More than 70 firefighters have been involved in the effort after fire broke out shortly after 1.30am this morning.

Fire service officials are now investigating the cause of the blaze.
