Firefighters serve up cooking classes

ROTHERHAM fire station has played host to a series of cookery courses to teach a group of students how to cook.

Once-a-week the group of eight students from rom RCAT attended the fire station on Fitzwilliam Road for cookery classes from a Rotherham Catering College chef.

The course, which began in January for eight weeks, aimed to equip the participants with the skills to cook healthy nutritional meals while on a budget.

They learnt how to prepare and cook two to three meals during each two hour lesson.

Participants were also given advice on the food industry and general home fire safety advice.

The initiative was funded by RCAT, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and Community First funding from Rotherham Borough Council.

As a thank you on their last week, the students prepared a special lunch of chicken tikka masala for firefighters on Rotherham White Watch.
