Firefighters free woman from wreckage after M1 smash

A 45-year-old Rotherham woman had to be cut free from her car following a motorway collision which left five people injured.

Part of the M1 motorway’s northbound carriageway near to the junction 33 slip road had to be temporarily closed following the incident involving two vehicles at around 7.15pm last night .

Firefighters from Rotherham, Aston and Dearne stations cut the roof from one vehicle to retrieve its driver, a woman from Kiveton Park.

She was transferred to Rotherham General Hospital by ambulance.

Four other people were also transferred to hospital.

A spokesman for the fire service said that a 43-year-old man had sustained a broken arm, while a 26-year-old man and girls aged 13 and 14 were transferred to hospital as a precaution.
