Firefighters attend overnight road accidents

FIREFIGHTERS attended two traffic accidents on Rotherham roads overnight.

Three crews from Elm Lane, Tankersley and Darnall fire stations responded to a crash involving one car between junctions 34 and 35 of the M1.

They arrived at 9.10pm and used a hose reel to put out the burning vehicle, leaving the scene at 9.50pm.

Paramedics treated one person for minor injuries at the scene, then allowed them to go home.

Two appliances from Maltby and Edlington fire stations attended Salisbury Road, Maltby where one car hit a tree at around 12.15am today.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but were later stood down. No injuries were reported and crews left around 45 minutes later.

Two fire crews also tackled a fire in a Mexborough house. Fire engines from Darnall attended Oliver Street, where a bedroom in a mid-terrace home was ablaze.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and a fan to ventilate the house, leaving the scene at around 5am.

Occupants had escaped the property by the time help help arrived. The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
