Family fun day to help crash dad walk again

Family and friends of Danny Cook, who was left paralysed from the waist down in the accident, organised a charity event at the Queen’s pub in Rawmarsh.

Face painting, a bouncy castle, music and food brought a large crowd to the event to raise money for Danny’s rehabilitation costs.

Around £1,200 was raised by generous attendees and a further £700 was added to the pot by James Scothern.

Danny’s aunt, Dawn Ingham, said: “James remembers Danny from school, when they went to Rawmarsh Comprehensive, Danny was the year above him.

“He competed in a Total Warrior event in Leeds and just said he wanted the money raised to go to somebody he knows.”

Danny (27) was paralysed from the waist down and broke his neck, sternum, back, and ribs after his car overturned on Warren Vale and plunged into woodland on February 8.

Doctors said it was a miracle he survived.

He is now receiving treatment three times a week to help him learn to walk again.

Dawn (51) said the private sessions cost £70 an hour so the family would continue to fund-raise until Danny could walk again.

A series of charity events are being held to boost the total raised, including a Psychic Rally at The Haynook in Kimberworth Park tomorrow night.

Tesco Wath has donated a 48in Sony TV as a raffle prize, in recognition of their cleaner Craig Marsh’s contribution in helping Danny at the crash scene.

Another fund-raiser will be a Bank Holiday fun day, August 30 at The Crown Pub, Greasbrough.
