All four vehicles were travelling north in the inside lane between J1 and J2.

A red Mercedes 2540 HGV collided with the rear of a silver Citroen Berlingo, which in turn hit the back of a white Scania R2360 lorry.

This overturned and slid into the rear of a white Vauxhall Combo van.

The Mercedes HGV continued across the carriageway and came to rest across the central barrier.
