Ex-cop to host Romans-themed talk in Barnsley

AUTHOR and historian Martyn Johnson will host a free talk at Barnsley Town Hall this Saturday (23).

The ex-policeman will talk about the Romans in South Yorkshire — particularly their occupation in Barnsley — at the event from 2pm in the council chamber.

Martyn was among those who found the first hoard of silver Roman coins in Darfield during the late 1940s.

The talk is part of a programme of events and activities related to The Romans Are Coming exhibition which runs until January 2014.
