Events to open doors for community groups on how to access £2 million fund

COMMUNITY and voluntary groups can find out more about the second round of a fire service funding scheme at four events held across South Yorkshire.

The events will give potential partners more information about the £2 million Safer and Stronger Communities Reserve.

Groups will be able to bid for as little as £5,000 or as much as £150,000 to support projects which reduce injuries, save lives and make South Yorkshire safer.

Key objectives for the fund include prioritising the most vulnerable, collaboration and data sharing.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue wants dozens of registered charities, community organisations and partner agencies to come forward and apply for grants from the fund, which has been set aside from its governing Fire Authority’s reserves.

During the first round of funding last year, a total of £500,000 was awarded to 19 different bidding organisations.

The four information events are being held on:

• February 23 – South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, 197 Eyre Street, Sheffield, S1 3FG.

• February 26 – Doncaster Knights RFC, Castle Park. Armthorpe Road, Doncaster, DN2 5QB.

• March 2 - The Core, Voluntary Action Barnsley, County Way, Barnsley, S70 2JW.

• March 5 – Carlton Park Hotel, 102-104 Moorgate Road, Rotherham, S60 2BG.

Each event runs from 10am to noon, with registration from 9.30am and a networking lunch afterwards.
