Elderly woman hospitalised after crash

AN ELDERLY driver has been taken to hospital after firefighters cut her from her car.

The woman was involved in a crash at around 5.30pm yesterday on the junction of Stubbin Road and Wentworth Road, Low Stubbin.

A blue Ford Escort and a yellow Peugeot 107 were involved in the incident, which left the woman trapped.

Two fire crews from Rotherham station removed her car’s roof to free her and she was taken by ambulance to Rotherham General Hospital.

A fire service spokesman said that the no-one else was injured and that the elderly driver’s condition was not life-threatening.

Police controlled traffic while emergency vehicles worked at the scene, blocking one lane of Stubbin Road until around 7.10pm.
