Eastwood event offers girls air cadets opening

GIRLS with a taste for adventure are being encouraged to attend an open night that could open the door for membership of the Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets.

The organisation is hosting an event at its Rotherham base, at the McKay VC Barracks on Fitzwilliam Road, Easwtood, from 7.30pm until 8.30pm on September 28.

The GVCAC is a Uniformed Youth Organisation for Girls aged 11 to 18 offering weekly meetings and the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, including: flying; camping; aviation studies; parades; service to the community; archery; skiing; dance; drama and more.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “Being a member of an organisation such as ours brings big rewards and opportunities, such as the International Air Cadet Exchange, overseas travel and the privilege of taking part in Remembrance Day Parades and other ceremonial occasions.

“Flying and Gliding Scholarships are also accessible.

“We are an operating authority for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award which is a great addition to anyone's CV and a big hit with colleges, universities and future employers.

“The Unit is also RAF recognised and whilst we are not a pre-services organisation we do offer help and advice for anyone thinking of joining the RAF as their chosen career.”

Weekly subscriptions for GVCAC are £2.50-per-week and a uniform is provided free of charge.
