Driver trapped in van smash

FIREFIGHTERS had to prise open the doors of a van to rescue the driver after it it hit a lamppost and wall.

The crew from Mexborough were called to the incident, on Lime Grove, Swinton, at around 8pm last night, and were forced to pull the driver’s door off its hinges and remove the van’s front seats before they could get the driver out safely.

One firefighter said: "The man was 48 years old and had to be extracted on a spine board.

“He had fairly obvious injuries to his head and neck.”

Police are now investigating the cause of the incident.
