Driver seriously hurt as car careers off road and overturns

A DRIVER suffered serious injuries after a crash in which his car left the road and ended up on its roof on the Dearne Valley Parkway.

The 36-year-old man from Wakefield was driving a silver BMW 318 between Cortonwood and Hemingfield at about 8.20 am on yesterday.

Police said the vehicle was approximately 500 metres from Hemingfield Road when it reportedly left the carriageway, travelled down an embankment and flipped over onto its roof.

The driver received multiple fractures and chest injuries and is being treated at the Northern General Hospital, in Sheffield.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the vehicle prior to the incident.
