A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “The silver or grey vehicle, of an unkown make and model, did not stop at the scene and it is believed it would have front-end damage to its headlights and bodywork.”

Officers want to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area at that time, who may have witnessed the collision or who may hold dashboard camera footage.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or email [email protected], quoting incident number 813 of January 31.
