Driver (60) killed in collision near Mexborough

A MOTORIST has died after his pick-up truck collided with a tree yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

The 60-year-old Toyota Hilux pick-up driver collided with a tree close to Marr Wind Farm, near Mexborough.

The vehicle was travelling along Hangman Stone Road, from Mexborough towards Marr, when the collision happened and police are appealing for witnesses.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “At around 1.50pm yesterday afternoon emergency services responded to reports a white Toyota Hilux pick-up travelling along Hangman Stone Road, from Mexborough towards Marr, had collided with a tree near to Marr Wind Farm. 

“The driver of the pick-up, a 60-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 

“Specialist trained officers are currently providing support to his family.

“An investigation is now ongoing and officers would like to hear from anyone who may have been travelling along Hangman Stone Road at the time of the collision, or saw the pick-up, to please report it.”
