Don't suffer domestic violence in silence - police

Don't suffer in silence, report domestic violence—that is the message from South Yorkshire Police during the festive season.

Officers want to ensure that the public know there are resources and staff dedicated to thoroughly investigate all cases.

Supt Peter Norman said: “People’s safety is our key priority, whether it is while they are out celebrating or whilst they are at home.

“Domestic violence cases seem to increase over the Christmas period and we would like people to report such cases as soon as possible, no matter what time of the day.

“South Yorkshire Police will always take positive action whenever and wherever we can at all times.

“My message to offenders is clear. If you assault your partner, you risk being arrested and prosecuted through the courts.”

The force’s Public Protection Units aim to ensure domestic violence and serious sexual assaults are dealt with positively.

Supt Norman said: “We want people to know that we will do our best to help all victims and their families.

“Nobody needs to suffer in silence.

"Call us and we can either help victims directly or help victims get in contact with their local domestic abuse partnership who have independent fully trained staff who will assist with practical help and support.”
