Disturbance closes Rotherham town centre pub

A FRACAS at a Rotherham town centre pub means it will be closed until tomorrow.

Police were called to the County, formerly the County Borough, on Corporation Street at around 9.30pm yesterday to tackle a disturbance involving a number of people.

Officers issued a 24-hour closure notice and one man was arrested for public order offences.

A meeting was held today between South Yorkshire Police, Rotherham Borough Council and venue managers to discuss the conditions of the licence.

Insp Jenny Lax said: “This was a one-off incident of disorder and although a large number of people were involved, no one was seriously injured.

“Following today’s meeting, the designated premises supervisor has voluntarily decided to close the venue tonight and reopen tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am.”
