Disciplinary committee allows bully deputy head to carry on teaching

The General Teaching Council’s Professional Conduct Committee found Moira Ogilvie, who also raised two fingers to a Year 6 class guilty of “unacceptable professional conduct” while she was employed as an acting deputy head teacher at the High Greave Junior School between September 2007 and November 2009.

Popular teacher Britt Pilton, who suffered from bulimia collapsed and died at school after being bullied by Mrs Ogilvie.

Teacher bullying case costs council £28,000.

The panel’s findings say Mrs Ogilvie “bullied, intimidated, undermined and victimised staff” and asked colleagues to monitor and report on their peers without their knowledge.

But the panel decided not to bar Ms Ogilvie from teaching, noting that she was an “effective classroom teacher” and saying that they had considered the effect on her current pupils of banning her from the classroom.

Ms Ogilvie has a right of appeal to the High Court within 28 days.
