Dearneside vaulters hit the heights

ATHLETES from Dearneside High Athletics Club beat the winter chill to chalk up a string of personal bests in a competition in Manchester.

Five PB's were registered by the seven pole vaulters taking part in the Reebok Open at Sport England's EIS Sports City indoor stadium.

Marcus Salt and Amy Hodgson, from the U15s training group, both took their personal bests up to 2.15 metres to finish second in their respective categories.

Caitlin Baker won the U15s girls' event with a fantastic pb of 2.35 metres.

In the U17 men's event, Nicolas Cole was on the top form. The 14-year-old matched his training partner, Lewis Billam, at 3.50 metres to tie for first place.

Brother and sister partners Katherine and Lewis Wilson were both in good form, clearing 2.80 metres and 3.20 metres respectively in the U20s section.
