ROTHERHAM United expect to know this morning whether they have secured the land for a new stadium.

Club officials made a bid for the 12-acre brownfield site at a meeting on Monday and were awaiting a response from the landowners.

The Millers have been heavily linked with the former Guest and Chrimes site on Don Street, although there has been no official confirmation from the parties involved.

Chairman Tony Stewart said: "We had a good, long meeting in which we presented an offer to the managing director.

"Fingers crossed, it will be accepted and we can get on with the next stage of building a new home for Rotherham United.

"As I've said before, I have spent thousands of pounds to ensure this land is fit for the purpose.

"A lot of preparatory work needs to be done but I am confident we could be in the new stadium in the early part of 2012 if things go to plan.

"The usual yardstick is that you leave 12 months for planning and 12 months for the build."

The club has two more full seasons left at its temporary home at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium before being required by the Football League to return to Rotherham.
