Cylinders concern after Kilnhurst blaze

FIREFIGHTERS spent more than 24 hours tackling a large cylinder fire in Kilnhurst over the weekend.

FIREFIGHTERS spent more than 24 hours tackling a large cylinder fire in Kilnhurst at the weekend.

Crews were called to the blaze at a vehicle workshop on an industrial estate on Glasshouse Lane, at 1.55pm on Saturday and left at 3pm the next day.

Five acetylene cylinders were involved in the fire and a cordon was put in place around the area.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue teamed up with Network Rail and London Fire Brigade who had specialist equipment to neutralise the cylinders and put the fire out.

There were four fire engines, a high volume pump and command support unit in attendance.

A spokeswoman said that it was to early to say how the fire started, but an investigation is now under way.
