Cyclist killed in accident was a ‘top lad’

A 29-year-old cyclist who died following a collision involving a car on a country lane has been remembered as a “top lad”.

Pete Burnett, of Maltby, was killed in an incident on Far Dalton Lane, Dalton Magna, at around 2.20pm on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said: “A blue Ford Fiesta, driven by a 26-year-old woman, was travelling along Far Dalton Lane towards Wickersley.

“Near the junction with Hill Top Lane, it is believed an orange push bike, travelling in the opposite direction, reportedly emerged from the grass banking to the nearside of the Fiesta.

“The pushbike came into collision with the Fiesta and the man, from Maltby, sustained fatal head injuries.

“The woman driving the Fiesta was not injured.”

Shocked friends and family of Mr Burnett, a former Maltby Comprehensive School pupil, took to Facebook to pay their respects to a “top lad”.

In a message to his family, Adrian Podmore wrote: “Shocked to hear about your Pete mate, my heart goes out to you all. RIP Pete.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the manner of driving and riding of the vehicles involved prior to the incident, should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 659 of August 21.
