ROTHER VALLEY MP Kevin Barron has warned that Tory cuts risk sending Britain into a double-dip recession.

MP Kevin Barron says public sector jobs are the key to economic growth, nationally and in Rotherham.

He said: “The level at which the current government is proposing at the moment is very dangerous.

“We need the public sector, particularly in this area to ensure growth, but the Tory policy seems to be cutting back these services which is a very foolish tactic indeed.

But “In fact, it has the potential to do more damage than the banking crisis did."

Mr Barron, a former chairman of the parliamentary health committee, said that the level of unemployment in Rotherham was not as high as it once was.

“There are still opportunities out there,” he said. I think this town has done well in that it has had to change quite a lot.

“There’s still a steel and coal industry here but there are so many other manufacturing areas emerging, particularly in the Rother Valley.”

Mr Barron backed new Labour leader Ed Miliband  describing him as “a great communicator” who would be good for the party.

He added: “He’s also great for Rotherham being a South Yorkshire MP.
