Customers help foil shop raid

POLICE are hunting masked raiders who raided a newsagent’s shop and stole cigarettes and cash.

The three masked men launched the early morning raid on Treeton News, in Front Street, Treeton at around 6am last Friday.

The men—one clutching a crowbar—marched into the shop and started stripping the shelves of cigarettes, looting the till and demanding cash.

But when a customers entered the shop, and tried to stop the robbery, the men fled and headed to a getaway car parked nearby, dropping much of their haul as they went.

Police cordoned Treeton News off for much of the morning after the raid.

Jacqui said that the three culprits were well disguised but seemed like locals aged in their late teens or early 20s.

They escaped with some cash but no stock and without the till drawer they had attempted to carry away.
