Cricket clubs warned after visa crackdown

CRICKET clubs have been warned to get their visa documentation right for overseas players ahead of the forthcoming season.

The UK Border Agency has issued tough new guidelines which could lead to a drop in overseas players while clubs that fall foul of the regulations could be hit by swingeing fines of up to £20,000.

But ECB Yorkshire South chairman Roger Pugh says that clubs needn’t panic and has advised them to check the legitimacy of foreign imports.

“Basically the Home Office has been concerned for some time now, not just in cricket, about players coming to this country and not only playing but such as coaching as well and being paid when they haven’t got the correct visas,” he told the Advertiser.
