Court date for hit and run accused

A MAN accused of killing a Conisbrough jogger in a hit and run will appear at court next Monday.

Mark Anthony Heeley (38), of Memoire Grove, Rossington, was charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of 52-year-old Derek Lyon.

He is also accused of and failing to stop at the scene of a collision in relation to the accident in March

Heeley, who appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (31), is also charged with driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He will appear at Doncaster Crown Court on Monday (6).

Mr Lyon was jogging along Ruddle Lane in Micklebring toward Edlington on March 22 when he was hit by a yellow Iveco Tipper Lorry which failed to stop at the scene.

He died from his injuries following the incident, which happened just before 4.30pm.

Mr Lyon, of The Crescent, was a joiner for Wath-based Bramall Construction. He was a motorbike enthusiast and his interests included badminton, going to Conisbrough Cricket Club and jogging. He also enjoyed trips to the coast with his wife June.

Heeley has been released on conditional bail until his next court appearance.
