Council leader to open new fire station

Rotherham’s newest fire station will be formally opened by the borough's council leader next week at a special ceremony.

Rotherham’s newest fire station will be formally opened by the borough's council leader next week in a special ceremony to mark open the official unveiling of the important community facility.

Cllr Roger Stone, leader of Rotherham Borough Council, will do the honours at the new Dearne Community Fire Station next Friday.

The ceremony will mark the move from the service's former fire stations at Mexborough and Brampton to a new, purpose-built Community Fire Station aimed at better serving the local people in the Dearne Valley area.

The new £5.5 million station, which has the capacity to house four fire engines, was built by North Midland Building.

The 3.5 acre site will also be home to a state-of-the-art training facility for the fire service's Technical Rescue Unit and a community room for local residents to use for meetings and events.
