Council garden competition open for entries

AN ANNUAL hunt for the borough’s best garden is underway.

Rotherham Borough Council’s gardening competition for tenants is accepting entries until the end of June.

The council’s assitant director for housing and neighbourhoods, Tom Bell, said: “I would urge tenants who nurture their gardens to enter this year’s grden vompetition.

“You don't have to be a gardening expert, you just need be proud of your garden, and if you haven't entered before there is a first time entry category just for you. 

“We would like to recognise our tenants for all the hard work they put into making Rotherham more welcoming and a place to be proud of.”

Categories include best multi-use garden, best first time entry, best balcony, patio or small space, and — top of the crop — best garden. 

The closing date for entries is, Friday June 29. 

The winner of each category will receive a prize of £50 and will then be entered into the best in show category, with the overall winner receiving an additional prize of £200.

The Mayor of Rotherham will also choose a garden to receive the Mayor’s Choice category. 

Prize money is awarded in the form of high street vouchers at the awards ceremony taking place at Rotherham Town Hall in September.
