Council credit card charges to go in Rotherham

A CREDIT card charge on payments to the council will be cancelled from the end of the month.

Rotherham Borough Council brought in the 1.75 per cent levy to offset charges made by Mastercard and Visa.

It has brought in more than £32,000 since being introduced in June 2015 but new European Commission rules will make the surcharge illegal from January 13.

The move is expected to be approved by Cabinet on Monday and a spokesman said making the change early would benefit residents.
