Council braced for massive cuts

TODAY is “D-Day” for public sector workers, councillors and businesses across Rotherham as  Chancellor George Osborne’s announces details of  the biggest programme of public spending cuts in the UK for decades.

The long-awaited Comprehensive Spending Review  will reveal exactly where cuts will be made and which departments will be hit the hardest.

Reports suggest that nearly 500,000 public sector jobs will go by 2014-15.

Thousands of protesters gathered in Westminster on yesterday to lobby MPs ahead of the announcement.
