Clough’s Leeds United story on South Yorkshire stage

THE story of Brian Clough’s infamous stint at Leeds United will be told on stage in Barnsley later this month.

Shaw Lane AFC, who recently reached the first round of the FA Cup, will host a production by Civic on Tour and Red Ladder Theatre of The Damned United.

Based in 1974, it tells how outspoken boss Clough put his reputation on the line by taking over Leeds United, the team he has openly despised for years.

Adapted from David Peace’s novel, The Damned United tells the story of Clough’s 44-day stint at Leeds United and takes you inside the tortured mind of a genius slamming up against his limits, while bringing to life the beauty and brutality of football, the working man’s ballet.

The production will be performed at Shaw Lane Sports Club at 8pm on Thursday, November 30.
