Applicant John Radford wants to open a fish and chips restaurant and takeaway at the former Maltby fire station on High Street.

He said: “This building is ideal for the proposed use. The layout is good and also the site provides approximately 20 off-street car parking spaces.”

A planning application said new business would create ten full-time and ten part-time jobs at the 17-hectare site.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue moved in with the police on Byford Road in Maltby last year thanks to £560,000 funding from the Government.

This created the region’s first joint station, which the emergency services said would help them save cash and share skills.
