Child sex abuse trial: Brothers "treated victim like a piece of meat"

AN ALLEGED abuse victim has claimed she was passed around three brothers and treated like “a piece of meat”.

The 32-year-old woman is the 12th alleged victim to give evidence in the ongoing Rotherham sex abuse trial and claims she had sexual relationships with brothers Bannaras, Basharat and Arshid Hussain when she was aged 14 to 15 and the brothers were aged between 19 and their mid-20s.

Arshid (40) is the only defendant in the trial of five men and two women who faces charges relating to this complainant - an accusation of indecently assaulting her between 2000 and 2001, when it is said she was 15 and he coerced her into performing oral sex on him.

In her opening statement, prosecutor Michelle Colborne QC, said the complainant had a sexual relationship with Basharat when she was 15.

Ms Colborne stated: “Although there is no offence available in law given the passage of time, the prosecution say this is further evidence of how the Hussain brothers passed underage girls from one to the other.”

In her video interview with the police, the woman said she had sex with Ash (Arshid Hussain) when she was 15 "when he had just got out of prison”, and she said she knew he had a wife and a girlfriend at the time.

She said Ash used to phone her and she would sneak out of her bedroom window to meet him for sex, and he would drive to lay-bys or take her to properties in Wingfield or Clough Road in Masbrough.

The woman said Ash also got another schoolgirl he was having sex with — a fellow complainant whom the jury heard from on Friday and Monday — to CS gas her in the face and “laughed” at the attack.

The woman said she believed this attack was because she had ended the relationship with Ash, which “probably dented his ego”.

She said the brothers had known how old she was as they would pick her up from school or meet her at shops nearby and she would be wearing her school uniform.

The woman said: “Sometimes they would bring a friend, and they would ask me to bring a friend.”

She said she remembered being in a car Ash was driving with her schoolfriend and being chased by men in another car who were pointing guns at them and trying to drive them off the road.

She claims Ash dropped them off at Rotherham Police Station so they could get away from the incident.

She said officers then dropped her at home but did not think she was “old enough to give a statement”.

The woman described Ash, who she also knew people referred to as Mad Ash, as a “more lairy, show off character, flash”, and she was excited by him.

Prior to meeting Ash, she said, she had been made pregnant by Bannaras Hussain at the age of 14 but had had an abortion.

Things between them had ended and a sexual relationship with Basharat began when she was 15, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

“Bannaras was not bothered,” she said.

“Looking back now you were just a piece of meat, used and abused.”

The woman said when the alleged abuse was happening she said she felt “safe, I suppose, loved", but looking back on it now she thought it was “disgusting” and “makes me feel sick.”

Basharat and Arshid Hussain deny 15 and 29 charges respectively.

The trial continues.
