Cha Cha Slide-ers take steps for SAFE@LAST: PICTURES

ROTHERHAM was alive with the sound of music as hundreds donned their dance shoes to hit the floor for the sponsored Big Bop.

Schools and businesses across the town got to their feet on Friday and danced to Cha Cha Slide to raise funds for children’s charity SAFE@LAST.

Katie Eastburn, the charity’s runaways education officer, said:  “We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part and supported the Big Bop.

“It was a huge success and fantastic to see so many people dancing together in aid of SAFE@LAST.

“Over all we had around six schools taking part and various businesses Cha Cha sliding.

“The money is still coming in, but we have raised around £3,000 which will be used to continue our vital services with young runaways across South Yorkshire.”

SAFE@LAST helps and support young people under the age of 16 who feel the need to run away from home.

The charity provides a range of support services including a refuge and 24-hour helpline.

The idea for the dance came through Katie's work with young people at Thrybergh School and Sports College.
