Caution sounded on Parkway plans

A SENIOR council official has sounded a note of caution over hopes the Parkway from Rotherham to Sheffield could be widened to three lanes.

Damien Wilson, Rotherham Council’s strategic director of regeneration and environment, said the £42 million expansion was a long way from getting the green light.

The plan is one of nine possible schemes put forward by the regional Local Enterprise Partnership to be funded by the Sheffield City Region’s Growth Deal, with hopes it could cut rush hour queues and pollution.

It would need to be approved by the Department for Transport before getting going.

Mr Wilson said: “The council is still a long way from making any decisions on these particular schemes, and any proposals would be subject to full consultation.”
