Car drives off after collision with teenager

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a collision at Meadowhall in which a 13-year-old boy was left needing hospital treatment and a car driver failed to stop.

The boy suffered leg injuries when he was in collision with a silver car, possibly a Fiat Punto, as he was believed to be crossing Meadowhall Road from the direction of Barrow Road at 8.40pm on Thursday.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly failed to stop and continued in the direction of the M1 motorway. The boy was taken to Rotherham General Hospital but was later discharged.

It is believed the driver of a BMW estate car who witnessed the collision stopped at the scene. Police are appealing for the motorist to come forward as well as anybody else that may have witnessed the collision.
