Candidates to be quizzed at Maltby hustings

ELECTION candidates will be given five minutes to sell themselves to voters tonight before being put on the spot at an open hustings event.

The debate is being hosted by Maltby Community Development Trust at The Wesley Centre tonight at 8pm.

A trust spokesman said: “We have invited speakers representing the English Democrats, Liberal Democrats, UKIP, Conservatives and Labour in turn and without interruption, to outline to the audience how they feel they can best serve the voters of Maltby.

“We will then invite them to question each other for a few minutes, one at a time - an opportunity to query the policies of their fellow candidates.

“After these initial discussions, we will take questions from the audience.

“We will ask for all audience members to vote on the way in, by secret ballot, and then on the way out, to see if the discussions have had any impact on voting.

“If anyone is willing, we can ask them to say how and why they have switched.

“The chairman will not be asking questions - except of a general nature and, hopefully, to encourage discussion and good humour.”

Doors open at 7pm and entry is £1.
