Can you name police's latest recruits?

MEET South Yorkshire Police’s latest recruits!

The seven German shepherd puppies were born just a month ago at the police’s dog training centre as part of the force’s puppy breeding scheme.

All but two of the pups—one dog and one bitch—have been named and South Yorkshire Police are asking for the public’s help in naming the last two.

The seven puppies will remain with mum Brandy at the centre for the next few weeks until they are old enough to be homed with their new foster parents or ‘puppy walker’ volunteers.

Their ‘puppy walker’ foster parents will then look after them until they are 18 months old and old enough to start their initial police dog training.

Even at just two weeks old, their training had started with recordings of crowd and traffic noises being played into their pen to help them get used to what being a police dog is all about.

South Yorkshire Police’s dog training centre manage Harry Morton said: “It’s great to see seven new pups born right here.

“It’s exceptionally busy when a new litter is born but mum and pups have done particularly well and thankfully all are fit and healthy.

“It is a matter of time now as we find out whether the pups will make good police dogs but first, we need to make sure they all have names.”

Send your name suggestions for the two puppies to [email protected] or write to South Yorkshire Police Puppy Naming Competition, Operations Complex, Europa Link, Sheffield S9 1XX, before Monday, November 22.

Include your contact details and if your suggestion is chosen you will be invited to the dog training centre to meet the pups.
