Campaign to fix Dearne Valley potholes picks up speed

A CONSERVATIVE candidate campaigning to fix pot-hole ravaged roads across the Dearne Valley has urged Barnsley Borough Council to take urgent action over the issue.

James Hockney, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Barnsley East, launched the Fix Our Roads campaign after being inundated with phone calls from concerned residents.

Last week he took to the streets of Wombwell and Darfield to collect names on a signature and push for action from Barnsley Borough Council.

He said: "I have been overwhelmed by the great response. We already have hundreds of signatures in a matter of days with many shops already asking for more petition sheets. “It really shows the strength of feeling among the residents who want to see action.

"Residents are completely fed up with the ongoing state of the roads and want their money spent on doing the job now and properly.

“Clearly we cannot go on like this and I call on the council to take urgent action as their taxpayers want them to.”

He added: “Many local people ask me why the council merely come out and fill in the pot holes rather than actually digging out the pot hole and then properly sealing it.

“As most people say to me, a job done properly will last years. I do have to ask if this reflects on how much of a priority they see road maintenance."
