Burglars target elderly couple

DETECTIVES are appealing for information about a burglary at the Wentworth home of pensioners aged 86 and 97.

The 86-year-old woman and her husband (97), reported seeing a man in their garden in Cortworth Lane at around 4.15pm on June 27.

When confronted the man asked for some directions and a second man was seen calling him away and both left the area.

Later that evening the couple entered their bedroom and found that the room had been searched and several pieces of jewellery were missing.

The stolen items include a 100-year-old gold watch, a pewter-coloured cross brooch, and two RNLI badges, one silver, one gold.

Witnesses have reported seeing a suspicious vehicle parked nearby around the time the victims spoke to the stranger outside their home.

The vehicle is described as an old silver or champagne coloured saloon car, of a similar style and size to a Kia Shuma.

The driver was described as a white male in his early 20s with a thin build. The passenger was described as an Asian man in his early 20s.

Officers investigating the burglary are appealing for any further witnesses to come forward or anyone who has information to contact police immediately.
