Brinsworth murderer jailed for life

A 21-year-old who battered his neighbour to death with a rum bottle has been jailed for a minimum of 15 years.

Justin Fishlock (21) was found guilty of the murder of David Wilkes (39) by a jury sitting at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.

Judge Michael Murphy sentenced him to life in jail with a minimum term of 15 years.

Fishlock had confessed to manslaughter but denied murder, claiming that he lost control and attacked Mr Wilkes after he feared he would be sexually assaulted.

The court had heard that alcoholic Mr Wilkes was battered to death with an empty rum bottle at his first-floor flat in Fortway Road, Brinsworth, in March.
