Brilliant venues, great bands what a musical melting pot Rotherham was

I remember in the 80s doing an interview and our bass guitarist was quoted as saying: “Until Rotherham is towed down south 200 miles bands like My Pierrot Dolls/Vision, MonAmour have no chance of ever making anything in the music world.”

The 80s in the Rotherham area were a thriving melting pot for bands and musicians, an industrial town that still saw Punks and New Romantics a plenty.

Venues like the Windmill, Charters and the Charade proved to be brilliant venues and attracted great bands.

Tony Beesley has written three books on the era of Punk, New Romantic, Mods etc and he deserves all the plaudits he gets.

His love for music holds no bounds and he is always trying to knock down the doors of the music industry to scream “Don”t forget about us up Norf.”

While I”m on my soapbox I”m trying to locate an old band member as My Pierrot Dolls are reforming after nearly 30 years.

Rotherham may not be London but it”s home and its music heritage is second to none.
