Bridal boot sale raises hundreds of pounds for cancer charity

A MUM and daughter raised hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity — thanks to wedding dresses.

Gaynor Hughes and her mum Karen Hughes, who both live on Park Road in Conisbrough, organised a bridal boot sale to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Karen has stage four terminal breast cancer and the pair wanted to raise money to help the charity support people.

The event gave women who had been unable to sell their wedding dresses the chance to find buyers.

Brides donated £5 to the charity to sell their dress but kept the profit on the sale price.

More than 100 dresses were registered for sale at the event which was held at the John Charles Centre for Sport at Middleton in Leeds.

There was also a catwalk show and wedding suppliers held raffles and competitions.

Gaynor said she was delighted with the final total — and her guests were pleased with their own outcome.

She added: “I raised £500 for the charity and some lucky ladies walked away with their dream wedding dress.

“It was a great day.”
